Justice Prayers - September 15, 2021

The church meets to imagine what our lives can be like if the gospel were true.  - Walter Brueggemann

Our Responsibility: Education as Prevention

This September, we will see a back to school season different from any before. For many students, after enduring online learning for over a year, they will return to classrooms, to playgrounds, and to spending time with new teachers and friends.

Justice Prayers - September 8th 2021

I hear a voice and He calls me redeemed
When others say I'll never be enough
And greater is the One living inside of me
Than he who is living in the world

- Greater Mercy Me

Go Green: Creation Stewardship Recommended Resources

Climate Witness Project is blessed to have a great group of regional organizers throughout North America, working to mobilize churches to take creation care seriously. We asked each of them to recommend a favorite book or resource that deals with climate change issues. Here’s what they said:

Power of Voice, Fair Process, Just Process and Restorative Practices

A driver was going 5 mph over the limit due to not seeing a damaged speed limit sign. After a police officer issued the driver a traffic infraction the driver immediately scheduled a time to argue it. However, even before the driver could talk, the judge simply threw out the infraction. Even though the driver didn’t have to pay the fine, they left feeling dissatisfied because they did not have the opportunity to speak.

Justice Prayers - September 1st, 2021

I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. - Psalm 16:8

Continuing prayers for Afghanistan as last American soldiers leave the country

Lord, we ask that your spirit would not leave this land. We pray against any powers and principalities that would dehumanize and diminish your creation in Afghanistan and we pray for  life grow.  We pray for pathways to peace in every family, neighborhood and city during this chaotic moment in this country.

Embodying Equity: Disability Justice Within the Church

Disability is a theological topic, because people of every kind of ability are created in God’s Image; moreover, through both our limitations and our gifts, people with disabilities indicate the uniqueness and breadth of God’s Image. Disability is a political issue too, because people with disabilities long for equity—freedom and human flourishing—for people of all body types. In this short post, I’m going to do two things. First, I’m going to briefly define disability, ableism, accessibility, and justice.

Election 44: At the Front Door

Soon, (if they haven’t already) canvassers will be coming to your front door to discuss their candidate with you.  These interactions are a great opportunity to seek justice and speak hope in the public sphere.

Talking in Circle

Hearts Exchanged is a perfect name for the program I was privileged to participate in this past year.  Instead of a purely intellectual exercise about Indigenous people and the church in Canada, this was a meeting of hearts and souls.  Real learning and listening took place. It was a laying out of beliefs and understandings.  Sharing of first person accounts. Gentle correction. Encouragement. Pledges to do better and ideas for how to do so in real and meaningful ways.
