Rev. Tavárez is a second-generation Latino immigrant of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent who has spent most of his life in Grand Rapids. He enjoys his culture. “Especially the food!” he shouts. At a youthful age, his passion became accessing skills and resources that he could bring into the urban areas of the city to build up minority community leaders. He earned a dual undergraduate degree at Kuyper College in Bible and International Business. He later graduated from Calvin Theological Seminary with a Master’s Degree in Divinity. Rev. Tavárez remains passionate about equipping urban leaders with cross-cultural leadership and ministry skills. He has served in various ministry roles and enjoys traveling as a workshop leader, preacher, and speaker. He currently pastors En Vivo Church, a Christian Reformed church plant.

Angela Taylor Perry currently serves as Pastor of Prayer at Voyage Church, a new RCA church plant in Kalamazoo Michigan. She is a triumphant 30-year survivor of Multiple Sclerosis. She is married to Raymond and has 13 grandchildren.

JJ TenClay spent four years in Italy as a missionary for the Reformed Church in America (RCA) working with migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. She returned to the United States in July 2018 and is now the Refugee Ministries Coordinator for RCA Global Missions. She is thankful to have seen the image of God reflected so diversely in the faces of those to whom—and with whom—she served abroad, and is excited to continue serving the RCA as it continues to develop a faithful response to the ongoing global refugee crisis.
