Restorative Justice

The level of mischief, grievances and conflicts are increasing in many communities. Trust levels and honest relationships are questionable.  One critical way to combat these rising tensions is how justice is by administering justice to achieve maximum respect for all involved. The modern court systems leave a lot to be desired. 

You wearied yourself by such going about, but you would not say, ‘It is hopeless.’ You found renewal of your strength, and so you did not faint. - Isaiah 57:10

A few years ago I joined some members of my church to think together about mass incarceration. One of the participants in our group was a returning citizen, a man who had served time and was trying to re-establish himself in the community. I asked him about the greatest challenge he faced when he got out of prison, fully expecting that he’d point to finding employment, housing, or another specific need – and indeed those were real challenges for him.

German Ship Captain Threatened with Prison for Rescuing Migrants

The German captain of a ship that rescued 53 refugees at sea was arrested Saturday after she attempted to dock at a port in Lampedusa, Sicily.
