In a recent UN report, 17 % of food production is wasted. We believe this earth is created good and designed to feed itself sustainably, so to have some go hungry and some have more than they need while 17% of this food goes to waste, causes us to lament and pray:
Creator and Sustainer, every good creation that feeds this earth is a precious gift. When we squander this gift, move us to repentance and forgive our audacity. Where we have extra food, give us creative ideas, both at home and systemically, so food is not wasted. Where we need to share and redistribute, call us to obedience. Lead us to be good stewards of your good provision.
The Trudeau government has agreed with the Senate that Canadians suffering solely from grievous and irremediable mental illnesses are entitled to receive medical assistance in dying. But they have also delayed this for two more years.
Calls for more funding and investment in mental health initiatives are being called for before MAID extends to those struggling with irremediable mental illnesses. We pray into this:
Father we pray for wisdom here. In the process of this legislation may healing investments take root in our communities around mental illness. We pray that wise restoration and health are what comes out of these discussions and your will for good life prevails.
10 years of a Syrian civil war has destroyed a society, killed hundreds of thousands, and left millions of people displaced and searching for a safe home. This devastation made by men, power and greed is a wound in our humanity that desperately needs healing.
Lord of all, we ask you to move in minds and hearts of those in power to stop this war and begin restoration. We lament the destruction of this country and her people. We ask you to provide shelter and safety from the smallest child to every elder who needs it. Healing and restoration are yours; heal and restore this nation.
As of Sunday, March 14 2021 there were more than 4200 unaccompanied minors in Border Patrol custody along the southern U.S. border. This crisis shows no signs of abating and options as to how best to care for these children while their claims are processed seem limited.
You made ways through the sea and paths through the waters (Is. 43). There must be way through this crisis that is compassionate, clear, sustainable and leads to life. Make ways for these children to learn and flourish. Protect them from harm, exploitation and fear. Open your people’s eyes and hearts to your path through this crisis.
This week, the Dream and Promise Act and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act will come to a vote in Congress. If passed, these two bills will provide a long-term immigration solution to millions of eligible immigrants - many of whom are essential food workers, health care professionals, and parents to U.S. citizen children. Call your Congress member to pass both bills as a good first step towards the goal of citizenship pathways for all 11 million immigrants; a goal which the majority of the American people support. Take action here.
